Road construction caused Verizon outage impacting Augusta-area phones. Here’s what we know.

Did your phone lose service for a while on Tuesday? You weren’t the only one.

Verizon customers across the Augusta area reported outages. According to Downdetector, at its peak between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., there were more than 5,000 reports and they largely came from Augusta, North Augusta, Hephzibah, and Evans. Customers reported their service was restored later that afternoon.

The cell phone carrier issued the following statement on Wednesday: “A fiber line cut by a third party vendor during road construction caused service interruption for customers in the Augusta area. Our engineers dispatched quickly and service has been restored.”

No information has been released on whether or not customers will be eligible for some type of credit for the outage.
