Body found at defunct car dealership in downtown Augusta

Augusta officials are investigating a suspicious death outside a defunct car dealership in downtown.

Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Walter McNeil said via a news release that deputies responded at 3:42 p.m. Tuesday to what was Johnson Cadillac at 1122 Walton Way, where they found the body of someone who had been dead for several days.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said in his own release that, due to the condition of the body, an autopsy has been scheduled and positive ID will have to be established.
