Will ongoing construction projects impact July 4th traffic in downtown Augusta?

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Cones and barrels are lining several streets in downtown Augusta as part of ongoing construction projects.

But with a full slate of July 4th events scheduled, will this have an impact on traffic throughout the Garden City?

You’ll find construction crews are directing traffic–and that’s because city engineering has paused construction ahead of the big day.

“They’ll take most of the time that they have left and kind of clean up their work zones, and get it all ready for tomorrow,” said Traffic Engineer John Ussery.

Currently there are projects underway at 5th, 6th, 13th, Broad, Greene, and Telfair Streets.

Traffic is also heavy coming across the bridge between downtown and North Augusta–but engineers do not anticipate any major problems.

“All of the streets that are currently under construction–most of the stuff will be pushed off to the sides, so there will be several lanes open for everyone to use. So there should be no interruption of traffic, other than maybe a reduced number of lanes on some of the construction zones,” Ussery said.
