‘Frustrating, to say the least’: Augustans get extensions on power outages after hurricane

Loss of power has been a widespread issue created by Hurricane Helene , and for some, it’s proving to be a persistent headache.

While the original estimate was that most Augusta-area houses would have their power back by Saturday, Georgia Power sent out messages to multiple customers Wednesday informing them it would take much longer to restore electricity to their house. Some may have to wait more than a week.

Milli Cassell of Augusta had her restoration moved to Oct. 9, saying while it’s their only issue at present, it puts a strain on life for basic necessities. That irritation is compounded by her account reading that she’s had her power restored even though she doesn’t.

Felisha Brown also got her service date moved to the Oct. 9.

“The extension is a headache but I understand what steps are needed to have it restored,” Brown said. “As long as they are safe doing their job, I’m good.”
