Debris pickup for Augusta to start Monday

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The eyesore from the storm – all the down trees and limbs. People growing tired ready for it to be gone.

“That would make a big difference – we feel like we’re in a war zone right now. I brought my grandkids out to look getting some of this stuff right off our property, they told us to put it right at the edge of the property. I can’t wait,” said Cheryl Cofer.

Residents are clearing a lot of the tree damage from their yards and are ready for all those limbs to be hauled away.

“I was assuming you know I would get them out of my yard and then take the next step figure it out,” said Steve Groseclose.

This week, commissioners approved $6.3 million to hire a Florida company to sweep the city and collect the debris.

Following behind is another company, costing $550,000 to record what gets picked up.

“They will be certifying, they are measuring them, get the volume so they can start getting out and hauling. The monitoring firm will assign an monitor every stick from the time we pick it up to the landfill,” said Steve Cassell, from ISM Engineering.
