Driver arrested for leaving dog inside very hot truck while she stayed in hotel

A truck driver was arrested last weekend after leaving her dog locked in the truck during hot weather while she stayed in a nearby hotel.

27-year-old Vanessa Holden Bryant was arrested on Sunday, October 6th in Grovetown, Georgia.

According to The Augusta Press , a woman walking by the parked truck at around 1 p.m. noticed the Shar Pei dog inside of the semi truck cab panting and licking the rolled up windows. The woman then knocked on the truck cab to see if the driver was inside but got no response, so she called police.

Officer arrived at the scene and used a lockout kit to open the truck doors and remove the dog, who was trapped inside the cab at temperatures of 160 degrees without water. Animal control then called the number on the dog’s ID tag and got in touch with Bryant, the owner of the dog.

Bryant told officers that she had checked on the dog a few hours prior and was staying at the Econo Lodge on Jimmie Dyess Parkway.

Bryant was then taken into custody for animal cruelty and her dog was taken to a shelter until Bryant was released on bail.
