Officials attempt to locate man after he allegedly tried to run over Burke Co. Deputy

KEYSVILLE, Ga. (WJBF) – Around 9: 45 Sunday night, deputies from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a large party on Martin Luther King Blvd in Keysville.

Upon arrival, deputies found a large crowd and told everyone they needed to leave the area.

Meanwhile, deputies saw a man driving recklessly in a vehicle on the roadway, reportedly laying drag. As law enforcement approached the subject, the unidentified man accelerated and drove directly toward one of the deputies directing traffic.

In response to the imminent threat, a deputy discharged their weapon at the vehicle as it approached.

The suspect then fled the scene, and the vehicle has not yet been located.

Sheriff Alfonso Williams has requested the Columbia County Use of Force team to lead the investigation into this incident.
