A long stretch of dry weather following Hurricane Helene has come to a close.
On Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for most of the Augusta area with several local districts impacted like Richmond, Columbia, Burke, Aiken, and Edgefield counties.
The watch is in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday evening. This is called when flash flooding is possible due to excessive rainfall. Consistent showers have been predicted over the next few days, with a slight-chance of it upgrading to thunder-storm conditions Friday.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
