It’s that time of year when people start grabbing sweaters and reaching for their favorite fall seasonal drinks, as they watch their thermostats.
Augusta temperatures are starting to plummet with lows dropping into the 40s as we head into the weekend, according to the seven-day forecast.
“Use your programmable thermostat’s features or set your manual thermostat to 68 degrees or lower,” said John Kraft, a spokesperson for Georgia Power. “For every degree lower you maintain your thermostat, you can see up to a 3-4% decrease in energy use. Never turn your heating system completely off.”
Kraft said 68 degrees might not work for every household.
“If 68 degrees feels chilly, consider throwing on a sweater or adding a blanket if you’re sitting around the house watching TV,” said Kraft. “A space heater can help keep smaller areas warmer. Especially, if you have a large or poorly insulated home. We always want to remind people to safely use space heaters that are in good condition. Make sure there are safety features in place.”
