GIRARD, Ga. (WJBF) – Burke County has a new fire station to better serve the community, as officials cut the ribbon to Engine Company 5 in Girard, Ga. on Thursday, March 27.
The station is located at the intersection of Highway 23 and Brigham Avenue about 20 miles away from Waynesboro and features four emergency vehicle bays.
“It will allow us to respond quickly, more quickly, because we would respond directly onto a state highway,” said Chief Steve Matthews of the Burke County Fire Department. It also is a better living environment for the firefighters who are going to be staying down here in station down here. And it gives us more room to. So that’s always a plus.”…
