Walmart Employee Kills Co-Worker in Georgia, Driver in Florida Injures Store Worker

COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — A Walmart employee shot and killed a co-worker inside a Georgia store and critically wounded another worker outside early Friday while the business was closed to the public, authorities said. After leaving the store, the gunman forced his way into a nearby home nearby and fatally shot a female acquaintance, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“The suspect specifically targeted individuals they knew,” the sheriff’s office said.

Six people were injured, three of them seriously, when a man drove a car into a thrift store in Naples, Florida, last week. The Collier County Sheriff’s office said Donald Peyton-Lee Russell Jr., 42, of Naples, was charged with intentionally driving his Honda automobile into the storefront, according to local news reports. The store is St. Matthews House Boutique Thrift Store, and the incident happened about 10:40 Thursday morning. An employee of the store was one who received severe injuries. It was not clear if the driver knew the victims or why he crashed into the store. It’s the latest incident of workplace violence in the United States, where deaths and injuries from work incidents may be on the rise. The U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics reported that homicides at work rose almost 9% from 2021 to 2022.
