Army Corps of Engineers continues storm recovery more than 7 months after Helene

APPLING, Ga. (WJBF)- More than seven months since Hurricane Helene hit our area, many are still recovering.

That includes operations at Strom Thurmond (or Clarks Hill) Lake, where the Corps of Engineers say it’s been quite a process since last September.

“This isn’t something that can be cleaned up overnight,” said District Engineer Col. Ron Sturgeon. “The sheer devastation here has been pretty enormous. It’s going to be a while—this is going to be a multi-year effort.”…
