Washington County deputies arrested two individuals on Sunday, May 11, 2025, after separate attempts to smuggle large quantities of contraband near Washington State Prison. The arrests came hours apart and resulted in the seizure of drugs, tobacco, and dozens of cell phones intended for inmates.
Around 7:00 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a man running through a field near the prison carrying several bags. Working with a Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) K-9 unit, law enforcement tracked the man into nearby woods and apprehended him. The suspect, identified as Alonzo Holiday, 39, of Augusta, was found with:
- 7 pounds of marijuana
- 309 grams of ecstasy
- 29 pounds of tobacco
- 37 cell phones
- Additional prohibited prison items
Holiday was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Trafficking in Ecstasy, four counts of Items Prohibited by Inmates, Crossing Guard Lines, Trading with Inmates, and Criminal Trespass.
Later that evening, at approximately 11:00 p.m., deputies were alerted to another individual seen near the facility with a large backpack. K-9 Kenai tracked and located the suspect, identified as Jaden Nelson, 18, of South Fulton.
Inside the backpack, deputies discovered:
- 13.5 grams of methamphetamine
- 122 grams of ecstasy
- 60 Xanax bars
- 1 pound of marijuana
- Additional banned items
Nelson was charged with five counts of Items Prohibited by the Warden, three counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Illegal Drugs, Trafficking in Ecstasy, Crossing Guard Lines with Prohibited Items, Trading with Inmates, and Criminal Trespass…
