AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It’s where those unhappy with their property reassessments head, the Tax Assessor’s Office to appeal.“It was just this assessment that went up and then you’ve got to pay more property taxes even though the value of your property has just been depreciated because of the whole neighborhood, and it just didn’t balance out to me. I don’t know what’s going on,” said Obadiah Baldwin.What’s going on is the reassessment of properties across Richmond County. On average values did go up, but not as much as we’ve seen the last two years.“No, it was not a massive reevaluation this year. Approximately three and a half percent on residential property was the increase we are seeing,” said Chief Tax Appraiser Scott Roundtree. One difference this year in some cases is property values plummeted due to damage from Helene.
