AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A heat Advisory that includes the counties of Wilkes, Taliaferro, Warren, Hancock, Glascock, Washington, Jefferson, Johnson, and Emanuel has been issued until 8 PM Monday for heat index values expected to reach 105+.
This advisory did not include the Augusta or Aiken areas, but it is possible heat advisories will become necessary in these areas with heat index values expected to be 105+ through Tuesday.
Winds will shift to the east Monday, which should bring just enough moisture in from the Atlantic to provide a few more clouds and a slightly better chance for a few pop-up storms in the afternoon. This should be enough to keep highs in the middle 90s, but with even higher humidity, feels like temperatures will still be around 105 during the hot afternoon hours.
The ridge of high pressure responsible for the warm temperatures will break down a bit by Tuesday. This will bring temperatures back down to normal by midweek with highs in the lower to middle 90s Tuesday through Saturday and scattered thunderstorms each afternoon…
