Aiken County adding more security measures to schools this year

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – Wednesday was “Meet the Teacher Day” for Aiken County Schools, and with school starting next week, safety is top of the mind for many.

Two-thirds of schools in Aiken County Public School District have vestibules. Vestibules are specially designed entryways that control access to the main buildings of schools to ensure that all visitors who enter are controlled.

Three schools, including Mossy Creek Elementary, will have a new vestibule for this school year, which is part of the $20 million fund the state has for school safety, according to Vickie Gaskins, director of security and emergency management for Aiken County Schools…
