Sheriff Brantley, Judge Bias to announce new juvenile curfew enforcement protocol

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley and Judge Tianna Bias of Juvenile Court are holding a press conference Friday to announce new enforcement protocols for juvenile curfew laws.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the “initiative is in response to growing concerns involving juvenile activity during late-night hours in downtown Augusta, local shopping centers, and residential neighborhoods—including increased incidents of loitering and vehicle break-ins.”

Key details of the new protocol are as follows:

  • Weekend Enforcement: Juveniles found out past curfew will be transported to a designated holding location downtown until picked up by a parent or guardian.
  • Weekday Enforcement: Parents will be contacted to respond directly to the scene for pickup.
  • The protocol aims to increase accountability, redirect negative behavior, and prevent juveniles from entering the criminal justice system unnecessarily.
