California man sentenced to 50 years in prison for March kidnapping of 89-year-old

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Enver Zueros, who in March was arrested for kidnapping an 89-year-old woman in Summerville, plead guilty to burglary and kidnapping Monday and was subsequently sentenced to 50 years in prison, First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe announced.

Zueros was charged with first degree burglary, kidnapping, and attempted murder on March 10 in Dorchester County. He was out on bond in California for attempted murder at the time and was allegedly attempting to extort money from the victim, an 89-year-old woman. He reportedly had some sort of marriage affiliation with the victim’s brother, who was offering Zueros financial assistance.

On Sunday, March 9, he came to the victim’s home in Summerville claiming he had thrown a football into her backyard, the solicitor’s office said. He went on to dowse her with bear spray, binding her wrists and ankles with duct tape. A neighbor came by to take the victim’s trash can down to her curb, as was routine, and noticed Zueros inside. Zueros eventually came to the door and told the neighbor the victim was at the hospital following a slip-and-fall in the shower, which the man knew wasn’t true…
