Progress on renovation of The Patch greeted with rave reviews

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Patchis being transformed,and those seeing the progress say the game and the city are in for a treat.“This and a public facility is just a huge thing for the game of golf. Golf has grown dramatically since COVID and people are itching for places to play, and this will just meet everything they’re looking for,” said John Patrick host of The Augusta Golf Show.Construction started in March and is moving forward on schedule.This isn’t just a renovation, it’s a full-fledged makeover. 125 new trees are being planted, and a new clubhouse is under construction.Holes are being rerouted, under the supervision of some of the best experts in the game.

“It’s going to be a phenomenal municipal golf course, the best in the entire world. I’m excited for the partnership of course with Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta Technical College, First Tee and all of the partners. This is going to be a wonderful asset not only for the city of Augusta, but for the game of golf,” said Mayor Garnett Johnson who has toured the course.The work includes a new par three course for The First Tee program. Young golfers will learn the  game on a course designed by five-time Masters Champion Tiger Woods“I think the cool thing about it is, I think the popularity of it will allow more people who are coming to this facility to see what First Tee actually does,” said First Tee Executive Director Jill Brown.The new Patch replaces the charming but less than first rate old one and it appears the new  course is on course to be a must play stop.“You know it will be. I wouldn’t be surprised it’s hard to get on the first six months that it’s open,” said Patrick.“It certainly will be. If you look at the two world class architects that they utilized as well as having Tiger Woods part of it at the loop nine hole course,” said the mayor.They are not just playing around improving the Patch…
