Augusta leaders state officials tour RCCI as they prepare to decide its future

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Local and state officials toured the Richmond County Correctional Institution (RCCI) to see its condition for themselves.

“Like the warden said, he can’t sleep well at night worried about the electrical panels which we saw that are totally outdated and the boiler room it’s a mess,” said Catherine Smith Rice.

Augusta has $11 million dollars in sales tax money for RCCI, but a new facility would be double that…
