AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The FIRST ALERT for Monday and Tuesday for Tropical Depression Nine (will likely become Imelda) continues for the possibility of locally heavy rain and gusty winds Monday and Tuesday; however, the current forecast calls for T.D. 9 (forecast to become Hurricane Imelda) to stay far enough off the coast that impacts in the CSRA are expected to be minimal.
The National Hurricane Center’s latest forecast track as of 8AM Sunday, 9/28 now favors a scenario where the storm strengthens into a Category 1 hurricane (Imelda) by Monday night as it traces the Florida coast Monday. From there, Imelda is expected to make a sharp turn to the east heading out to sea – not making landfall anywhere in the U.S.
