Augusta officials unveil new fleet of electric buses that go into service next week

In an effort to become more sustainable, the city of Augusta was awarded $12 million to purchase five new electric buses to replace the diesel vehicles the city used to ferry residents to their destinations.

A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday at Augusta Transit to unveil the five new buses. A number of elected officials and agency partners were in attendance.

“In Augusta, we are the first transit agency in the CSRA that has a battery electric bus,” said Oliver Page, deputy director for Augusta Transit. “This is a major achievement for the city of Augusta. Ninety percent of the cost was covered by a federal grant. The city only had to pay $100,000, $900,000 came from the federal government. We applied for a grant in 2022 and were awarded $6.2 million. We did it again last year, and we were awarded $12 million.”…
