AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — Augusta’s large federal workforce population, including many military personnel at Fort Gordon and the Department of Veterans Affairs, faces growing uncertainty as the government shutdown continues and federal funding dwindles.
Experts say consumer confidence will likely decline, negatively impacting businesses like real estate that often move with the economy.
“Consumer confidence always plays a large factor in any of our purchases, whether it’s going to the grocery store or buying a house,” said John DeFoor, managing broker at DeFoor Realty. “I had our first person that we showed a house to on Friday, who said they were furloughed. So that’s really the first indication that we have seen or heard.”…
