The Augusta Commission on Tuesday approved a rezoning to build smaller homes next to a west Augusta church, over objections that it could harm a nearby subdivision’s property values.Mayor Pro Tem Wayne Guilfoyle cast the sole “no” vote on a proposal to build up to 32 homes, each about 800-900 square feet, next to Good News Church at 400 Warren Rd.
Nick Teske, representing Purpose Holdings LLC, is partnering with the church on the houses. He told commissioners Tuesday that he was partly inspired to undertake the project by his young-adult children, who he said have been priced out of a costlier housing market.
The proposed new houses would sit across Warren Road from Montclair, a subdivision whose 500-plus modest, well-kept homes have made it one of the most popular local neighborhoods since the 1960s…
