Hope & Help: YMCA launches food drive to help community during government shutdown

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Local nonprofits are stepping in to help as the government shutdown affects federal workers and SNAP recipients across the CSRA.

The YMCA of Greater Augusta is working to connect people with resources they need if they rely on SNAP benefits or are among the hundreds of thousands of federal workers not receiving paychecks during the shutdown.

With 1 in 8 people relying on SNAP to put food on the table, millions of people in Georgia and South Carolina face hunger.

Volunteer Daisy Herrington is still working to help kids in the CSRA, even after a career in elementary school teaching, as a food drive employee at the YMCA…
