Hope & Help: Local churches helping people in need

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The line for food assistance locally has grown over the last few weeks as the federal government shutdown reaches 28 days, with many local federal workers missing paychecks and SNAP benefits at risk as early as Nov. 1.

But as that continues, volunteers at local churches are giving their time and resources to feed even those who are usually financially stable on their own.

With 1 in 8 people relying on SNAP to put food on the table, millions of people in Georgia and South Carolina face hunger.
