Augusta collecting tens of millions of dollars in storm recovery reimbursements

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Fleming Park played a part in Augusta’s recovery from Helene serving as a debris drop-off location, but park goers don’t miss the mess.“We couldn’t hardly drive this way because of all the trucks and all the debris. My tires were messed up everything was messed up,” said Cookie McCoy of Augusta.Last October, the city began picking up the mountains of storm debris left behind by Helene,  spending more than $65 million. Now, the city one of the top in Georgia getting its coffers refilled.

“We’re number five in the state to be able to collect the dollars that we need to get Augusta going again,” said Mayor Garnett Johnson.
