Augusta Rowing Club hosts Head of the South Regatta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Augusta Rowing Club hosted the Head of the South Regatta on the river on Saturday.

The 5-kilometer race started in Hammonds Ferry and ended in Augusta. The race had over 540 entries with some participants coming from as far as Ohio.

Days after opening sign-ups for emergency rental and utility assistance, Augusta-Richmond County suspended applications.

“We were really thrilled to have such a great turnout,” said Kirsten Aylward, president of the Augusta Rowing Club. “We were thrilled about the weather today. It was a great rowing day. The competitors had a blast. We had an outstanding referee crew. And the community really came together to support us in terms of volunteers.”…
