AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – A Richmond County sergeant was recognized Wednesday as a a life preserver stand was dedicated in his honor for a water rescue earlier this year.
On Father’s Day of this year, Sgt. Darrell Grooms helped to rescue father and son, Glenn Wright Sr. and Glenn Wright Jr., who were caught in a fast-moving current in the waters of the Lock and Dam during his routine patrol at the park. Sgt. Grooms and another bystander, Anthony Caruso, were awarded for their efforts in the rescue days later at a special ceremony.
On Dec. 3, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office unveiled the Sergeant Grooms Life Vest Station at Baurle Boat Ramp at Lock and Dam Park.
