Dreary Friday turns into a damp weekend setup

Friday evening update: It has been a gloomy Friday across the CSRA. Rain and low clouds have settled in and really aren’t going anywhere fast. Showers have been drifting across the region in waves, and when the steadier rain lets up, areas of mist and drizzle are hanging around to keep things damp. Temperatures have barely budged all day, and honestly, they probably won’t move much at all tonight thanks to that thick cloud blanket. Expect readings to hover in the low to mid 40s into Saturday morning.

As we head into the weekend, the unsettled pattern continues. Saturday looks like another gray and cool day, but the coverage of rain won’t be the same for everyone. Areas south of I-20 have the better chance to see more widespread showers, while places north of the interstate may see lighter, more scattered activity. Even then, most of what falls should be on the lighter side. Highs will struggle again, topping out in the low 50s – still well below average for early December.

Saturday night into Sunday, drier air slowly starts pushing in. Clouds should finally begin to break in the western part of the area overnight as temperatures drop into the 30s. By Sunday, the overall trend continues toward improvement. Rain chances decrease, lingering clouds begin to thin a bit, and temperatures try to warm slightly. Even so, Sunday stays on the cool side, still running below average for this time of year…
