Overnight warming shelters are available during cold snap

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – With temperatures expected to drop, nighttime warming centers are open for the safety and well-being of residents.

People who intend to stay at a center will need a clearance from deputies. Here’s how to get one:

  • Before 5 p.m., visit the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Records Bureau in person.
  • After 5 p.m., contact the Sheriff’s Office dispatcher at 706-821-1080. A deputy will be dispatched to provide the necessary documentation.

Be prepared for winter weather by checking the First Alert forecast.

Augusta Transit will provide complimentary transportation to designated overnight warming shelters between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. To arrange transportation, call 706-821-1719 before 8 p.m.

Pick-up locations:

  • Broad Street Transfer Facility – 1546 Broad St.
  • May Park Community Center – 622 Fourth St.

Drop-off locations:

  • Augusta Rescue Mission, 526 Walker St. (Route 3 – Gold Line/East Augusta)
  • Garden City Rescue Mission, 828 Fenwick St. (Route 6 – Brown Line/Gordon Highway)
  • Salvation Army Center of Hope, 1384 Greene St. (Route 3 – Gold Line/East Augusta)
