After aggressive expansion into Georgia, Whataburger closing 2 locations

ATLANTA, Ga. — Whataburger has expanded into Georgia over the past few years to great fanfare, but the Texas-based chain has now closed two north Georgia restaurants.

The locations at 254 Riley Road in Dahlonega and 700 U.S. 29 in Athens closed Monday, the company said.

The United States gained a decent 64,000 jobs in November but lost 105,000 in October, the government said in delayed reports.

“This decision helps focus our efforts where we can make the biggest impact, ensuring our Guests continue to enjoy the high-quality, delicious food and genuine hospitality they’ve come to expect from Whataburger. Into 2026 and beyond, guests will find new Whataburger locations opening throughout Georgia including our newest locations in Suwanee and Carrolton coming soon,” the company said…
