North Augusta leader sounds alarm over park debris

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) — A North Augusta city councilman is raising concerns about construction debris affecting Brick Pond Park as development continues in the area.

Dennis Briatico, a councilman on the North Augusta City Council, said he has observed debris from construction zones entering the Brick Pond and surrounding buffer areas.

Plans for an Augusta data center − announced years ago and possibly forgotten by many − have grown quite a bit.

“I see debris from the construction zone going into the brick pond and then into the buffer area,” Briatico said. “There’s styrofoam, plastic wood. If we get a nice windy day, that stuff is going to blow straight into the brick pond.”…
