Woman arrested after vehicle pursuit ends in crash, authorities say

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – A woman has been arrested after allegedly leading deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on a vehicle pursuit through Augusta on Wednesday.

According to officials, 56-year-old Shelia Downs was initially stopped for a seatbelt violation. She is accused of fleeing the scene, as officers pursued her through the Harrisburg area on Jan. 7.

Deputies said a pit maneuver was conducted to at the off ramp from John C. Calhoun Expressway at Greene Street to end the pursuit. The vehicle Downs was in rolled over when it came to a stop…
