It’s early in the new year, but some want to revisit Augusta’s budget

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Mach Academy is a nationally acclaimed for using tennis and technical training to prepare its students for higher education, but here’s the game changer, without city financial support in 2026.

“Just trying to keep it all together. we’ve already seen drastic changes, and more are to come, so it’s not the best feeling,” said Mario Burch whose four children have been part of Mach Academy.To avoid a tax increase, commissioners approved deep cuts to outside agencies in this year’s budget.

Mach Academy is taking a $217,000 dollar hit, but some city leaders already willing to revisit the budget for the outside agencies cut in 2026.“It’s a travesty that we’re going to look these kids in the face and tell them, you know, ‘we support you, but go figure it out somewhere else.’ We have got to be able to put our money where our mouth is and we can do it without raising taxes,” said Commissioner Jordan Johnson…
