School staff failed 11-year-old during seizure that led to his death, parents claim

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/Gray News) – The parents of an 11-year-old boy are suing a Georgia school district, claiming staff failed to follow his individualized education program and his emergency medical plan before and during a seizure that led to his death.

Aa’Dyen Hooks fought for his life well before he was even born. Doctors diagnosed him with multiple severe disabilities, including developmental delays, complex heart conditions, liver cancer and epilepsy.

“He brought joy and a special relationship to everybody he encountered,” said Kandis Horton, Aa’Dyen’s mother. “If you saw him, you wouldn’t have known anything was wrong with him.”
