Community gardens groundbreaking planned for Allen Homes Feb. 11

Black Farm Street Inc. will host a site prep kickoff and groundbreaking for the Allen Homes Community Garden at 9 a.m. Feb. 11.

The Allen Homes Community Garden, 516 Hines St., is a resident-informed Early Action Activities project implemented through Augusta’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative. Led by Black Farm Street Inc. in partnership with Augusta Locally Grown, the City of Augusta Housing & Community Development Department, and the Greater Augusta Arts Council, the project is designed to expand food access, support youth recreation, and create shared outdoor gathering space for Allen Homes residents, according to a news release.

Planned improvements include raised community garden beds, irrigation, shaded space for education and gatherings, public art, and revitalization of the existing community basketball court. All elements were shaped by resident input during the Choice Neighborhood planning process.
