AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A local nonprofit took an unprecedented step to protect people experiencing homelessness during recent dangerous cold weather by renting motel rooms for nearly 25 people.
Compass for Hope, a group that helps those experiencing homelessness, rented out motel rooms over the weekend when temperatures dropped to dangerous levels.
“They are keeping us safe, they are keeping us well, they are putting us in places, clothing us. Keeping us in our right mind because we would’ve lost it by now,” said Robert Thompkins, one of the clients who stayed in a motel room…
