7:35 p.m.: âMake some snow angels, stay off the roadâ
- Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Will Volk says your best bet is to stay home this weekend.
- âPlease, if you have nowhere to be, unless itâs really important, stay off the roads. That will really help our crews out especially, because if you wreck your vehicle and you block the road, we canât plow the road,â Volk said.
- âWe see crashes on a sunny day. Now weâre going to throw in some snow, some icy conditions, like itâs going to be slippery and people arenât used to driving in that kind of stuff around here. … I wouldnât want to be out there,â he said.
- âJust enjoy the snow, make some snow angels, stay off the road.â
6:41 p.m.: Ga. crews make progress treating highways
- Georgia Department of Transportation crews and contractors have made good progress treating routes in east-central Georgia ahead of a winter storm forecast to impact the area on Saturday.
- As of 6 p.m., about 85% of planned routes have been treated.
- Georgia DOT crews treated all lanes of Interstate 20 and Interstate 520/Bobby Jones Expressway.
- The original plan called for only treating the outside lanes. But because of additional resources, crews were able to treat all lanes.

- Based on current forecasts, GDOT anticipates switching to salt and plow operations on Saturday morning.
