Columbia County approves 2 data centers, rejects 1

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Columbia County commissioners approved two data center projects and denied a third Tuesday night after hearing public comments on all three rezoning proposals.

The commission voted unanimously to approve the White Oak data center with conditions, including reducing the noise limit from 70 decibels to 65 decibels at the property line.

The Pumpkin Center project faced the most public opposition but was approved 4-1, with Commissioner Allison Couch voting against it.

The project includes additional conditions such as increasing buffers from 250 to 500 feet, raising berms from 6 to 12 feet to block views, and prohibiting residential housing on the east side of Highway 221 near the center.
