AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Keeping Downtown Augusta neat is a big job, just ask the people who work there.“There is so much trash going on all the time especially after the clubs close. There’s trash everywhere and I see them every morning when I come to work,” said Sabrea Pierce, who manages a restaurant on Broad Street. They are the workers of the Augusta City Enterprise, or ACE program, and for the last five years, the workers have been picking up trash, cleaning off graffiti, and landscaping downtown.“I don’t think that it works, I know that it has worked. You talk to business owners in this downtown area and they’ll tell you the same thing, is that they call ACE before they call the city. They have such a relationship with this program,” said Commissioner Jordan Johnson.
Grantski Records has been on Broad Street since the beginning of ACE, and the owner has been pleased with the results.
“I think they’re doing great. They’ve come and helped us multiple times and they definitely keep it clean,” said Evan Grantski. The city’s budget for ACE is nearly $550,0000, and commissioners have voted to put the downtown service out for bid, a move some find surprising…
