Man accused of fatally stabbing Helms College student appears in court, bond denied

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The man accused of killing a Helms College student in the school’s parking lot will remain behind bars after appearing in court on Friday, Feb. 13.

Justin Lee Johnson is facing murder and weapons charges in connection to the fatal stabbing of Martin Gordon back on Oct. 13, 2025. Gordon was a student at Helms College studying to become a HVAC technician.

“There is no motive. When I found my brother I checked his vitals,” Darrell Mills, Gordon’s older brother said in the courtroom. “No wallet, his wallet was there, his keys was there, his phone was there. Nothing was took from him but his money. A man with a bookbag and lunchbox.”…
