Augusta director calls out commission after creation of vegetation maintenance department

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – When it comes to cutting grass and maintaining the city, Augusta commissioners say the change is needed.“One area you can point to, one person that you can point to, and if there is a problem, you go back to that one person,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Wayne Guilfoyle.Commissioners approved consolidating all landscaping maintenance under one single department with a new director for efficiency and accountability.“We’re looking for efficiency in trying to make certain the service output that the constituents are looking for happens,” said Commissioner Don Clark. But the move has prompted Engineering Director Dr. Hameed Malik to send city leaders an email, where he says he’s taking “exception” and saying the statement about “efficiency and accountability is a direct reflection on my performance.”“Did anybody attack Dr. Malik, personally?
