Making Way for the New Dental School: Archery Practice Pushed Back Off-Campus

Construction for Augusta University’s new dental college campus has begun in Savannah, where crews broke ground at the site on Armstrong’s former recreational athletic fields earlier this semester.

In 2024, Governor Brian Kemp announced that $178 million of state funds were being allocated for the design and construction of the new Dental College of Georgia campus. Once complete, it will be only the second accredited dental college in the state.

The funding was brokered to address the shortage of dental health professionals in Georgia, where there is currently only about one dentist per 2,000 residents. The state’s only dental college at Augusta University currently trains around 100 new dentists annually…
