S.C. hands-free driving law takes effect this weekend

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – A new South Carolina law taking effect on February 28 makes it illegal to hold a phone while driving, expanding on an existing ban on texting behind the wheel.

North Augusta Public Safety Lt. Kyle Golden said phone use while driving is a daily factor in crashes in the city.

“I would say once a day there’s probably a significant accident within the city that is directly from texting while driving or using your phone while you’re driving,” Lt. Golden said…
