Richmond County holds first meeting to name career center replacing Josey

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A Richmond County naming committee wants to keep the Josey name on the new college and career academy, though the school board will have final say.

The committee held its first meeting Tuesday in a closed session. At least one additional meeting is expected before a formal recommendation goes to the Richmond County School Board.

Alumni push for the Josey name

The committee’s early consensus reflects the position of Josey alumni, who have been vocal at every public meeting since the school district announced the consolidation plans in December.
