Woodlawn Fire burning near Evans and Augusta

About forty firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service and other agencies are responding to the Woodlawn Fire, located six miles north of Evans, Georgia, on Sumter National Forest and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources land in southern McCormick County, South Carolina. The wildfire covers about 200 acres and is burning in heavy debris left by Hurricane Helene.

Drivers are advised to use caution on Woodlawn Road and Highway 28. There are no evacuations or structures threatened at this time. Smoke may be visible from Modoc, Clarks Hill, Martinez, Evans, and Augusta. The fire was discovered at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, and the cause remains unknown.
