AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Will McCranie’s is the creator of Will’s Dills, a pickle that’s made in Downtown Augusta and for this episode the team stopped in to find out what Will’s business is all about.
What is Will’s Dills?
“Will’s Dills, in a nutshell, are artisanal pickles made right here in the heart of Downtown Augusta. We currently have 10 retail locations, I think the furthest it will be from the source would be about 6 miles, so I dare you to find a more local pickle. We also focus on treating pickles as a fresh food item, versus something that something that’s kind of a green, neon, floppy thing that’s been sitting on the shelf for God knows how long. Just kind of wanted to turn this on its head, it’s been a labor of love, I’ve been making these for about 15 years now, and we kind of ran it as a business during the pandemic, and life got back together, and last fall I was like, it’s time, let’s do this.”
What makes you get in to this kind of thing?
“I was living in Sunnyside, Queens, playing music around New York City and we were going to have a Bloody Mary party, and in the early 2010’s in New York you couldn’t be caught dead in a store if you could make it in your house, so it was just a thing. Flurry through a bunch of research a bunch of research about how are pickles made, how can it be done. I came up with a recipe that became our Devil Dills, which are habanero garlic dills, for this Bloody Mary party, and I don’t know, it was just one thing that I did right, and I just kept doing it for Thanksgiving, parties, things like that, and again, until the world shut down I didn’t really think about it as a business.”…
