Road Trip: Movie Night at Aiken Symphony

It’s movie night! The Aiken Symphony will present a musical journey through some of Hollywood’s most beloved films, including legendary film composers John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, and more Saturday, March 28, 7:30 p.m. at the Etherredge Center, 340 Scholar Loop, Aiken. This is for a concert celebrating the magic of the movies through the power of a live orchestra.

Film music is a powerful storytelling tool, capable of instantly evoking emotion, shaping mood, and deepening our connection to characters and stories. Epic adventures, such as The Lord of the Rings (2001–2003), Hook (1991), and Pirates of the Caribbean (2003–2017), come alive through the adventurous scores of Howard Shore and John Williams. The dramas of Saving Private Ryan (1998) and War Horse (2011), both scored by Williams, portray the hardships of war and the courage it demands with music that is at once dramatic, reflective, and deeply patriotic. Elmer Bernstein’s score for The Magnificent Seven (1960) captures the spirit of the American West with a Copland-esque flair, especially in its galloping main theme. Meanwhile, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), another John Williams masterpiece, paints a tender tale of unlikely friendship and the longing for home through childlike melodies and soaring themes.

These selections represent just a glimpse into an evening filled with unforgettable movie music to delight audiences of all ages. Come relive the magic and emotion of these iconic films, brought to life by the sound of Aiken Symphony…
