Burke County sheriff issues ‘doomsday’ warning about budget; county disputes claim

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams pleaded with the public to show up to a county commission meeting after saying his office is running out of money.

In a Facebook video, the sheriff said his office is facing a financial crisis.

“We’re out of money. The budget is depleted. We have no money. We have no operational money to do anything. It’s going to affect our quality of service to you, our service delivery, our response times, our communications, our investing tools,” Williams said. “I know it’s a doomsday message but it’s a very important one.”…
